The application of ultrasonic waves to therapy or diagnostics, as in deep-heat treatment of a joint or imaging of internal structures. Sound with a frequency greater than 20,000 Hz, approximately the upper limit of human hearing. 

Ultrasound Preparation: 

(Pelvic / Obstetric/ Kidney) Drink 32 ounces of water one hour prior to exam. Do NOT empty your bladder prior, your bladder MUST be full at the time of your exam or this may result in rescheduling. 

(Abdominal / Gallbladder) Do NOT eat or drink after midnight the night prior to your exam.
